The competition for African tech talent is heating up. 5 tech startups focused primarily on hiring highly talented remote African software developers have raised upwards of $200m. Turing, Tunga, and Andela are at the frontiers of this new burgeoning afro-talent sourcing industry.

These companies often pay monthly salaries upwards of 10 times higher than the average locally-employed African software developer makes. The increased competition also means that these companies will tussle for the most talented developers on the continent by offering them lucrative contracts almost similar to those of their U.S based counterparts.

For example with the right expertise and talent in cutting-edge fields like Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning, salary contracts for remote African based developers can skyrocket to as high as $110,000 — $130,000 per year.

The real game changer however will be when these highly talented African developers begin building technologies that transform the continent’s economic growth and development prospects from within, rather than creating apps that power foreign economies.
